In conjunction with the installation, The City’s Double: Singapore Through Alberto Fanelli’s Stereoscopic Lens and the panel A History of Italian Food in Singapore, the National Museum of Singapore in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute is pleased to present a free screening of the Italian classic Senso. A definitive piece of Italian cinema that has been described as “the first Italian film to use colour to convey human emotions”, Senso has touched audiences and influenced artists around the world.

A story of passion and betrayal set against Italian patriots battling for independence against the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1866, Senso sees the Countess Sepieri (Alida Valli) betray her marriage and country for an Austrian Officer (Farley Granger) to disastrous effect. The film received the Nastro d'Argento for best cinematography.

The film was restored by StudioCanal, Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia/Cineteca Nazionale and Cineteca di Bologna/LImmagine Ritrovata with funding provided by GUCCI, The Film Foundation and Comitato Italia 150.
